The Short Story …
Our founder, Mathew Sebastian, has over 15 years experience heading corporate finance functions in the airline industry. Matt’s focus has always been to develop financial processes and analyses that generate business insights which lead to better decision-making. While heading the Corporate Development group at American, Matt had the opportunity to meet with lots of entrepreneurs building new startups. He was struck by the fact that as companies grew, they all needed to build up more processes around their accounting and financing needs. This could be anywhere from setting up the right processes to make sure you are getting paid correctly to building multi-year strategic plans for investors and other stakeholders. This realization led to the inception of Mobility Advisory Services.
The Long Story …
Matt started out his career at US Airways over 15 years ago in Financial Planning. A few years later, he was part of the team involved in the company’s acquisition of American Airlines, working on everything from valuation and due diligence to integration and change management. Airlines operate in a highly constrained environment and as such, leading in corporate finance was a masterclass in dealing with a myriad of different stakeholders, each with their own agendas and goals.
Matt’s most recent role at American was leading their Corporate Development group, a part of the organization tasked with forming partnerships between American and new companies in the field of aviation. While working in this new role, Matt encountered a whole new world of builders and dreamers - companies working to change the very way we think about flight!
During Matt’s executive program at Stanford University, Matt had a chance to meet more new companies at different stages in their evolutionary process. He started to see how his expertise would be valuable in fueling entrepreneurial growth. Mobility Advisory Services was created as a result of these conversations. Our mission is to help builders and dreamers keep their focus on growing while MAS takes care of the boring parts of dreaming big.
